Facephone? Fandroid? Phonebook?

So Facebook is developing a phone. While no-one is particularly surprised it is certainly a lot of fun coming up with names. (Phone book!!! I kill myself.)

Remember when those ideas had sex? (I am not talking about the hotel porn you were watching last week where the two midgets dressed as light bulbs, copulated on a shaky home camera. Pervert.) Some weeks ago I posted Matt Ridley’s talk about the conception of ideas and now here is the matrimonial boudoir in which they were spawned! Check out Steven Johnson’s talk Where good ideas come from. Now maybe we’ll actually have some evidence to support the recurring “we should have our boardmeeting at the pub” argument.

Instagram stop photo sharing app stop

A soon to be released app for your smartphone, Instagram is the latest in photo-taking, filter-applying and photo-sharing. The service is looking pretty slick, it lets you take a photo apply a filter and immediately uploads it to your newsfeed for comments and likes by your friends and followers. The most liked photos are shared on a central newsfeed. And it will be completely free!! Look out for it in the app store over the next few weeks and read more about it at TechCrunch in the interim.

When IE went all Burke and Wills

Microsoft have released the beta of IE9 which focuses on the beauty of the web by enhancing your browsing experience. Yeah ok but will it get left behind by all the competitors? IE certainly has a history of getting lost and abandoned in the internet wilderness… Check out the TechCrunch video with IE’s senior director.

    I’ve got 90 million things to say…

Is a picture really worth a thousand words? Twitter certainly thinks so which is why today, they announced the roll out of their pic and video display features in your twitter stream! This is launching for a select group of users in the US today and will gradually launch globally over the next couple of weeks. So with an average of 90 million tweets per day I guess I only have to tweet something like 90,000 pics. Wait! What about videos? How many words are they worth?? Catch the full details at TechCrunch.

    Buy a vowel already

Gt ths kds! (For all those non-New Zealand speaking individuals I just said, “get this kids!”) Clp.ly is a nifty little site that turns your web links into neat little screen grabs. Paste in the link for your desired website and voila! Seconds later you have a alterable screenshot that links to the website with embed code (and a complete absence of vowels apparently). Pretty shweet!

It’s the Jibe of the thing

Are you a verbal masochist? Do you love the cutting thrust of a verbal parry slicing through your emotional psyche? Me neither. Although the newest job browsing platform may just have you baying for insults. Just launched out of beta testing Jibe is a site that uses Facebook, Twitter and Linked in to build you a professional profile and find you the best jobs in your area of expertise. Your Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn connections are registered and you may find you have contacts in many of the companies posting jobs whom you can message and ask for advice or details. Jibe also utilises a crediting system that lets you earn leverage over other people who apply for the same jobs. Read more about the dets (and how much money they’re gonna make) at TechCrunch.
